3 years ago yesterday

We moved to Jackson and 3 weeks later our welcome wagon arrived. I was so glad Lana was still nursing and I didn't have to worry about food for her. Our power went out around noon and was out for only about 24 hours. It was still hot and humid in the apartment since we didn't have any air flow and couldn't open the windows because it was raining. Our apartment building lost a couple of siding pieces and the windows leaked and a few places water leaked in through the walls. Lucky for us Paul's work office retained power through the entire thing. We made our way over to the office (amazed at the amount of debri and power lines along the road) and reveled in the air conditioning and watched the news covering the damage reports. Not something I'd want to go through again, so we're hoping Gustav veers more west!

Happy 9 months Tanner!

Can't believe it's already been 9 months, sorry we kept you doped up on tylenol all day. You sure were a happy kid though!

Tanner's surgery

I had mentioned some time ago on the blog that we took him to the urologist to get his nether regions checked out and today Tanner had his surgery. I don't want to embarrass the poor kid before he can even defend himself, so we'll just say that the surgery went well. We left the 'burg at 3:30 am in order to make it to the hospital in Jackson at 6 am for check in. Poor guy couldn't eat after midnight so I woke him up at 11:30pm to eat. He could only take down 6 oz. before he zonked out and I couldn't wake him up again. Lana was a trooper even though we woke her up so early. Both kids fell asleep in the car on the way there. I was so proud of Tanner because he didn't fuss or cry about being hungry at all. We could hear some of the kids screaming in their rooms. Not Tanner, he was full of smiles and laughs especially when it came to Lana. They took us to the prep area and talked to us about the anesthesia and put marks on him. I handed him off to the nurse and said she'd call me in the waiting room after they finished putting him asleep and had the tube in. He handled the anesthesia very well. The surgery ended up taking less time than anticipated (it was about a total of 30 minutes of separation). The Dr. came in and gave me the summary (Paul had gone to check on our house) and let me go back to be with him in recovery. Poor guy was so miserable, the nurse gave him 2 small doses of morphine and he finally was able to find his happy place and relax. We tried to give him a bottle, and he ate it, but it didn't agree with his little tummy and he promptly spit it all up. Luckily it landed mostly on the blanket because I hadn't thought to bring ME extra clothes. About an hour later we were able to check out and head home. He cat napped the entire way home and zonked out as soon as I put him in his crib. I think he has been enjoying his Tylenol laced codeine because he's been minimally fussy since we've been home. Below are a couple of pictures snapped while we were waiting for the anesthesiologist.

After Tanner's surgery, I was trying to get him to smile and no matter what I did or what Paul did, the kids first smile was at Lana.

They weighed Tanner when we got there and he clocked in at 20 lbs. 9 oz.

12 days later...

And we finally have our own internet hooked up. I'd like to take a minute to take back some of the bad thoughts I had about Comcast and direct them to their idiot sub-contractors they hire out who don't know what they're doing. Come to find out, the genius who originally came out to set our stuff up DOESN'T ACTUALLY WORK FOR COMCAST. Wow, that explains a lot. Anyway, it's done, finished and everything works. Yay!

Fashion Diva or typical 3 year old?

I need a dresser with a lock. Or maybe I should put her clothes in a safe. Or maybe I'll make her do her own laundry. Or maybe I'll stock up on some hair dye because I'm pretty positive it's my 3 year old who's making these gray hairs pop up out of my head.

Unfortunately this scene is not a culmination of days, but of one day. More specifically, a few hours. The picture doesn't even depict the clothes she got out, put on-took off and actually put back into the dresser. Is it a wonder that I dread laundry day?

Serious tongue action

This is Tanner's new thing. Sticking his tongue out. Highly amusing so I caught some video of it. I wouldn't recommend playing it unless you are a parent/grandparent or someone weirdly interested in watching Tanner stick his tongue out and roll around on the floor because quite frankly it would be utterly boring otherwise. Don't say I didn't warn you.

We're here and everyone's still sane (mostly)

So we made it. We're officially moved in to our apartment. We have internet, but only because someone has an unsecured internet connection around here. (Yay for us!) So the move was relatively painless except for the minor fact that it rained/downpoured practically the entire load/unload time of the move. Then my car battery died and my super-duper-handy-dandy McGuyver like hubby (more on that in a moment) Paul changed my car battery in the pouring rain, luckily I had stuck the large umbrella in my trunk instead of sticking it on the moving truck! Tanner slept the entire ride down and Lana watched movies on the dvd player. Paul, the oh-so-wonderful guy that he is had a large chunk of the apartment unpacked and put away before I even arrived! So the McGuyver comment comes in here: We only get 1 over the air channel here in the 'burg and it doesn't come in very well on our tv's, but Paul managed to finagle a coke can and the cable wire so we could distinguish the images on the tv. It was very impressive! Anyway, huge kudos go out to everyone who helped us out by watching the kiddies and feeding us. It's amazing the amount of stuff you can get done when you're not tripping over a little one or accidentally whacking them with a box. So for now, we are here and we're good and looking forward to some normalacy back in our lives.

Hi, My name is ... and I'm an internet junkie

What am I going to do without internet for 2 (possibly more) days? How will I know what's going on in the world? It's like that feeling you get when you leave your cell phone at home when you go run an errand. You know, a bit naked and vulnerable. Silly and yet frustrating. I just know something big is going to happen in the world and here I am with boxes piled up to my eyeballs and can't do anything about it. And I won't even have my tivo to watch Michael Phelps win a few more gold medals. Sad.

Crazy Rain

Here's some pictures of the crazy rain we recieved last week. It was coming down so quickly, I came up onto our back porch and made our back yard look like a wade pool. And we even have a french drain back there! It drained quickly once the rain slowed down, but it was still crazy. As
often as we have thunderstorms and down pours out here I'm still in awe of the power of mother nature as they come through.

Technical difficulties

Due to some technical difficulties, I deleted this post thinking that it might've been the problem. It wasn't so I'm reposting it again.
