Tanner's 2 month Dr. appt.

So we took Tanner to the Dr. today for his 2 month appointment. Thankfully we were not kept waiting for an hour like last time, although there were a ton of sick kids in there with the flu and strep (ugh, good thing I brought hand sanitizer). He is weighing in at a whopping 14lbs. (90th percentile) and measuring 24"in. long (95th percentile). 6 more pounds and we're going to have to buy him a new car seat. Seriously crazy how big this kid is getting. He's not really very chubby or atleast that's how it seems to me, he's just all around big. He did get his 2 month shots today and he did cry but only for about 45 seconds and then he passed out in his car seat. He woke up briefly when we got home to eat and passed out again before he could finish. Poor guy, those shots just break my heart. Lana did so well at the Dr.'s. I tried to prepare her before hand and emphasize that we are going for Tanner and not her so she doesn't need to worry about anything. I gave her a sucker while the Dr. was examining Tanner and when he got his shots. She quietly sat in her chair the whole time. I was so proud of her!

Enunciation

So as I posted earlier below, Lana is good at carrying on conversations. However, sometimes her enunciation isn't all that it should be. A classic example would be her requesting to watch a movie. She might ask for "The Dancing Movie" (High School Musical 2) or "The Penguin Movie" (Surf's Up). She enunciates everything fine except for the word movie. The M and the V are being pronounced like B's. I can't help but laugh every time she does it, of course that doesn't help as then she thinks it's funny and keeps doing it. Anyway, we've been working on fixing that and now it's only coming out as "Moobee".

Oh and her new favorite word has become "gosh". Now, I have NO idea where she picked that up because I do not say gosh. Actually I say other things I don't want her to say (okay all you extremists, I know you're thinking swear words, but they're not). However innocent the word "gosh" is, it makes me more aware of the words that come out of my mouth, Paul's mouth and off of the TV because Lana will eventually pick them up and say them in the most inconvenient of places (ie. church and other embarrassing situations). Ugh...

Lots of smiles

Check out this good lookin' boy. Can you believe he's going to be 2 months old on Monday? Time goes by way too quickly around here.

These pictures really don't do his smile justice. He is so much cuter in person!!

Conversations

I get sad looking at Lana and thinking about how fast she's grown up, but I also see all of the fun things she can do now. Like have a "real" conversation. While we drive down the road we talk about the cows we see in the pasture or the water fountains we see on our way to the store. I can pretty much ask her to get me anything for Tanner and she knows where to find it (ie. paci's, socks, burp rags, blankets etc.). "I get it mommy, I get it!" or "I found it!" I love it! Today while I was fixing dinner, I asked her to grab me her sippy cup so I could refill it. She turned to me and said, "No mommy, I'm running." Okay, you're running huh? "Yes, mommy, I'm running. Wheeeeee!"

Synchronized pooping?!!!

Okay, I'm really serious here. Lana just got up from her nap with a poopy diaper and as I speak Tanner is filling his up as well. Could there be any scientific information backing this phenomenon? Okay, this is a short post as I need to prevent Tanner from leaking out the sides. (Nice visual, eh?)

Peanuts!

So today for lunch we went to Logan's Steakhouse and it's the kind of steak house where they give you a bucket of peanuts and you can just throw the shells on the floor. Well, Lana absolutely loved the fact that she could throw things on the floor and get away with it. So she's tossing the peanut shells left and right. Paul gets a glimpse of the hood of her jacket and there she's got peanut shells in it. Lucky she didn't get to tossing them too far and hitting other people in the back of the head!

The Flipper Bowl

Brief synopsis: Our largest ward activity of the year. It's a paper football tournament with so many bells and whistles it takes weeks to put it all together. There are even trophies.

At the last Flipper Bowl I got beat by an 8 year old. I still got eliminated first round, but I did atleast score some points.

If you look closely at this picture you will see that with my camera taking skills I was able to catch the actual "ball" mid-flip. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact I was randomly snapping pictures.

Fun fact: Paul's goal kicks were brutally acurate as they smacked his apponents faces each time. He also made it to the 4th round but then got beat by a 16 year old girl.

This is actually a picture from the last tournament, but I just wanted to show a little bit of the work that goes into this activity. This is the stadium seating area where the final game is played.

This one is from last tournament as well, just giving a bigger view of what this really looks like. If there's anything in Mississippi worth coming for (you know, besides us), I would have to say it's the Flipper Bowl.

The weather people were actually right?!!

Okay, so we totally did NOT see this coming. Last night we were watching the news and the weather people were giving the weather and were forecasting a chance of snow overnight and possibly this morning. I really didn't give it another thought as the weather people are not the most accurate out here (how hard is forecasting hot, humid and sunny for 80% of the year?). Anyway, imagine our surprise when we woke up to this...

Lana couldn't wait to go out and play in it which is why her hair is still a mess. Not enough to make a snowman, but enough to keep a 2 year old happy for a few minutes.

Oh, and for the record Paul and I haven't seen snow in probably about 3 years.

I obviously haven't missed it much because I am the one inside sitting by my warm fire place (which, by the way, we turned on for the first time in 2 years just this week).

Spare change, anyone?

Just wondering if any of you out there have some spare change you could part with. You know, only $50k.

Is 2 really better than 1?

When it comes to kids, yes.
When it comes to sick kids, no.
Poor Tanner got sick on Wednesday and Lana just couldn't stay away from her brother no matter how hard I tried and she got sick Friday.

You know Lana's not feeling well when she won't smile for the camera. However, she was super excited to be wearing her new yellow dress and mommy was super excited that she sat still enough this morning to get french braids in her hair!

Prayers

Okay, so if you've been around Lana or have been reading our blogs for a long time, you'll know that Lana cannot/will not be forced into doing anything that puts her in the spot light (ie. talking to people she doesn't know, sitting on Santa's lap, talking on the phone etc.). Well, praying happens to be one of those things. It has taken us a long time before she would repeat the words of a prayer. It's not that she couldn't do it, she just wouldn't. Every time we'd start, she'd clam up and start to whine or pretend to cry. Well, Paul finally got her to start repeating at least the last words of every line. The funny part is she says the words as though she is fake-crying or in physical pain and she scrunches up her face. 99% of the time I can keep a straight face through any kind of prayer but I just couldn't help chuckling the first time I heard her do it.

Spider Pig

So I watched The Simpsons Movie yesterday and got the "Spider Pig" song stuck in my head. I was singing it in my head everytime I woke up to feed Tanner. So I thought I'd share and get it stuck in everyone else's head as well. (insert evil laugh here)

"Nope...not poopy!"

So the other day while I was feeding Tanner, he was passing gas. I smelled him to see if he needed a diaper change and I said "Nope, not poopy" out loud. The next time Tanner passed gas, Lana went up to him, lifted up one his legs and took a big sniff and said "Nope...not poopy Mommy!". Now each time I smell Tanner Lana needs to smell too just to make sure I get it right. What a good helper I have!

Saturday activities

We blessed Tanner this weekend, so we had Grandma and Grandpa Judson along with Grandpa Jerry come in to town. Since it was such a short weekend for everyone we just stayed home and enjoyed each other's company. We played Pinochle, Farkel, and the Nintendo Wii all while chowing down on Grandpa Jerry's popcorn and other various forms of junk food.

Here's Grandpa Judson sharpening his bowling skills on the Wii.

Tanner enjoying some attention from Grandpa Jerry.

This picture is just to show Lana in her PJ's and Paul in the background still playing the Wii. It was the popular choice of activities on Saturday.

Big kisses!

We have SMILES!

Yay! Tanner is finally smiling for real, not just when he's sleeping or about to go poop. I've gotten him to smile at me a handful of times today. *sigh* What a sweet boy he is. Sure makes up for those multiple poopy diaper changes earlier (which by the way have gotten much better...only 2 big poopies today) Now if we could just convince him to sleep through the night and to eat every 3 hours instead of 2! I know, I'm such a picky mommy aren't I? Um, I think I just realized where Lana gets her pickiness...oops!

Happy New Year!

What would New Years be without fireworks? Some years we had legal ones, sometimes not so legal ones...but the point is, we had fireworks. This year was no exception, but for the record they were all legal. (There are some advantages for living out in the sticks.)

We got together with some friends, ate food and played games. Unfortunately we started the fireworks late (okay let me clarify...late for a sleep deprived person being 8:30pm) and didn't get to light them all. Next year we must remember to start earlier! Anyway, here is a picture of the kids front row seats.

This is Lana being protective of her chair. She couldn't make up her mind whether she wanted to sit by me or by all the other kids and kept dragging her chair in between. She wouldn't even let it go to hold a sparkler.

The funniest part of the evening was the request for "Jumping Paul's" fireworks. Every time Paul lit off the jumping jack fireworks, he'd start jumping around and the kids thought he was hilarious. It was quite the sight, I wish we'd had a video camera.

All in all, it was an excellent holiday. I am sad that it will be a while before we get another excuse to light off fireworks.
