*poof*...dirty!

I think it's one of the mysteries of the universe. How is it that my family room can be spotless and then - what seems like - in a blink of an eye it's a disaster zone? Where did it all come from? It reminds me of that creepy Febreeze commercial where the mom picks up the stuffed animals littered on the floor, sprays Febreeze, turns around and the animals are back on the floor (sniffing it). Of course it takes me at least 3 times as long to clean up the room. I'm thinking Lana's room is about to get a good spring cleaning this weekend.

What's for breakfast?

I'm pretty laid back when it comes to what Lana eats for breakfast. I mean, it must be considered breakfast food, but I let her choose what she'd like to eat. I pick my battles and breakfast is too early in the morning to be having a battle. This last week it's been nothing but Granola Bars. I've never seen a girl go through so many of them before. I'm not complaining because it could be worse. When she gets stuck on Lucky Charms, all she eats are the marshmallows and I don't think the marshmallows are fortified with anything that resembles nutrition.

Pj's

So, the last few times Paul has changed Tanner into his pj's he's made the observation that they're quickly getting too small and I should move him up a size. I too have also observed this, but rationalized that he still had 2 pj's that fit fine so I didn't think any more of it. I cannot rationalize anymore. His poor little toes are all curled up in the feet of his pj's and he can barely stretch in them, it really is quite sad. It's easy to say, well why didn't you just pull out the next size up? Sure, that's great and all except the next size up would be 12 months and Tanner's only 4 1/2 months old! I did not think we'd be needing them so soon. All I can say is that we'd better have another boy so we can actually get some use out of these clothes or I'd better get some good money for these "like new" clothes.

"You're in the way, mom"

So we're playing on the bed this morning after our sweaty adventure from the store. Lana's bouncing around making Tanner laugh. She accidentally bumps my arm and says, "Oops! Sorry, mom." I said, "It's okay, thank you for saying you're sorry." Lana says, "Mom, you're in the way, move please." This struck me funny because I'm usually the one saying "move please, you're in the way". I wanted to respond to her statement, but I didn't knowing she wouldn't understand what I was saying. But I would've told her "you better get used to it because I'm going to be in your way for at least the next 16 years. (evil mom laughs here)"

Today is NOT a spring day

By "spring" I mean I can go to the store and not sweat to death between the car and the building. Today is NOT a spring day. It is a yucky, muggy, sweaty day. And it's only April 22.

Just funny

Here is what I found when I went in to wake Lana from her nap yesterday. At first I thought she had her knees tucked up into her shirt and as I got closer and pulled the blanket off, I found her hot pink teddy bear crammed up there instead. I was laughing so hard I had to run out of her room to grab the camera before I woke her up.

Since I was taking pictures of Lana sleeping, I figured I'd take some of Tanner sleeping. However I was not so stealthy and before I even got one picture he opened his eyes. He's looking more than a little irked at me. I can't blame him though because if someone was taking pictures of me sleeping and woke me up in the process I'd be more than a little irked as well.

I'm tired...

I feel like I've been going non-stop since Saturday. It's been crazy busy with trying to get the church building cleaned, cleaning my own house for the BYU-Idaho Band students we hosted, shopping for food for the students, doing load after load of sheets, blankets and towels in the laundry, visiting teaching, a new calling and trying to fit one last achievement days activity in for my primary girls. Oh wait, and lets not forget the 2 little ones that need bathing, feeding, changing and loves on top of all that. And it's only Thursday. I think on Saturday I'm going to lay around in my pj's and watch movies all day.

Wall-e

I saw this preview and thought it was so cute! Lana might enjoy this one in the theater this summer...

Cold withdrawl?

One moment Lana is happily playing in Tanner's room. The next thing I know she's decked out in a winter hat and gloves. First of all, that's Tanner's hat and glove and yes that's Tanner's sock on the other hand posing as a glove. She kept telling me it was cold outside (granted it was cold today, 50-something for a high after a near 90 last week). Then she started talking about snow. I'm still traumatized after our 4 days of non-stop snow in Utah earlier this year!

As we were walking out the door today Lana spotted a bug on the rug. So she smushed it with her shoe and then ran to get a kleenex and cleaned it up just like daddy does. Unfortunately (for me because we are in bug season and I'm already sick of them crawling around my house) what she smashed was only a clump of grass. I'm not sure that she'll be that meticulous when it's something that actually moves.

Okay, one last Lana story for the day...I'm pretty sure that our electric bill is going to double this month. Why you may ask? Because Lana is continually turning on the lights. I will concede that she does turn off the lights (rarely and only when I tell her to). Everytime I turn around she's got a light on (and it's the middle of the day). Today I found the back porch and flood light on as well as the 2 sets of front room lights, the front porch and flood light and the dining room light all on. At the same time. And Lana was in none of these areas. (Insert exhausted breath here) I'm tired of turning off lights.

Oh, and Lana went through atleast 4 outfits over the course of today. Not because she was dirty, but because she couldn't decide if she wanted to wear overalls, pants, or 2 different dresses. Yay, lucky me! (sarcastic remark)

As for Tanner, he had a fairly quiet day. He's finally built enough strength up to roll his solid self onto his belly. Of course then he gets all mad because he can't turn back the other way. It's cute until he does it when he's taking a nap, then I'm constantly going in there to flip the little pancake over until he falls asleep.

"The Office" Oh how we have missed thee...

I thoroughly enjoyed last nights episode of the office. But I have to admit that my favorite part was at the very end when Angela and Andy are eating ice cream together in the car. Andy leans over and licks Angela's ice cream cone. With a look of disgust on her face, Angela then rolls down the car window and smashes the cone on the car door. Hilarious!

Fun interactions

When I found out we were going to have a second child, the closer I got to the end, I kept thinking to myself "what the heck was I thinking? two? what am I going to do with two?!" Of course after Tanner came and he is so sweet, adorable and the most easy going kid compared to Lana as a baby. But to watch these two interact with each other is so sweet. In the mornings when Lana wakes up she'll get right up in Tanner's face and wait until he smiles at her. Then they have a little laugh together. I caught this scene on camera as I was picking up the family room. Lana keeps looking at me as though wondering if what she's doing is okay. I figure as long as he's not crying she's alright. Tanner is highly tolerant of most of what Lana does to him. Let's hope that's a trait that will last. Lana is also a good little helper. She's great at giving Tanner the paci and getting burp rags when needed. She's also getting to be much more independent. "Lana's turn" is one of the most used phrase in this house (right up there with the worn out "no" and "stop"). What a cute pair they make!

An interesting story

So, I don't normally blog about my books. But blogging is slow this week so here goes. I came across this book, "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" by Jean-Dominique Bauby. The gist of the story is this guy has a brain-stem stroke and becomes paralyzed everywhere except for his left eye and some neck movement. The stroke, however, did not affect his brain at all which results in what they call locked in syndrome. He writes this book by using a specialized alphabet and blinking. It's interesting to read of how he relates his experiences of what it's like to be locked inside of his body. His frustrations, his patience, his humor that he retains. It takes an amazing sort of person to go through something like that and still look on the bright side of life. Great read and quick too, just a mere 144 pages.

Hello Tornado...

Here's some pictures of what went on in our area yesterday. It was a pretty crazy storm, I guess a handful of ward members lost power. The tornado went right over the Ford dealership and mangled 75 cars. The dealership is just a couple blocks away from Paul's office. Everyone's fine, no loss of life (thankfully) and the Home Place office still had power. It was very erie driving around yesterday. Very reminiscent of Hurricane Katrina.

Your dust is killing my grass

Okay, I just have to post this because at the time, when the incident happened (over 2 years ago) it really ticked me off.

So at the time that we bought our lot and started clearing the trees off and grading it, it hadn't rained in a long time. The ground was exceptionally dry which made the grading process really dusty. Anyway, one evening Paul happened to be at the lot and our backyard neighbor came out and talked to Paul. I don't recall the exact words he said, but they were in essence...All the dust you're creating is killing my grass. That was it. No "Hi, How are you. My name is so-and-so". Just your dust is killing my grass. Now the picture above is to show how ironic that statement was. His "grass" is nothing more than weeds 2 years later. I have never seen them open up their blinds to the back of their house to look at his grass he cared so much about. He doesn't even mow his own lawn, he hires people to do it for him! Now his precious grass which he has so lovingly cared for is now infested with nasty weeds and is killing our grass.

Who's chair is it anyway?

So I bought Tanner one of those Bumbo chairs yesterday. I thought he might enjoy looking out at the world from a different vantage point other than his bouncy seat. For now he'll sit in it for about 10-15 minutes at a time. My arms enjoy those few minutes of not lugging around a 16+lb child. Now if the thing only had wheels (obviously fashioned in such a way that it would not turn over) so I can push him with my toe and wheel him from room to room as I go instead of having to take him out and move the seat and then set him back down. Whoa, I just had a visual of what Lana might do to him if that seat had wheels. Never mind. Strike the wheel idea.Speaking of the other child, she would sit in the Bumbo all day long if I would let her. Everytime I turn around (and when Tanner is not occupying it) I find her sitting in it. It drives me crazy!

Luckily she has a dark green booster seat that she uses at the table which is similar, so she doesn't mind having to give up the Bumbo when it's Tanner's turn.
